We really appreciate the support and going by the comments everyone who has stayed with us has had a great experience. Remember that we offer day safari’s as well , so if you are looking for something to do on a Sunday , why not join us for a relaxing day on Bucklands.

Although the Eastern Cape has been plagued by drought Bucklands has received a similar amount of rain to our annual average for 2010. Our animals are looking great and we are thrilled with the birth of “Bella” our first baby white rhino to be born on the reserve.

Our Quad biking safaris are proving very popular especially with the young at heart so don’t forget to enquire about this activity during your next stay.

Rare Sightings

by Iain Stewart

In the last while some really interesting animals have been seen and at strange times. Let us start with the strange sightings, a number of aardwolf as well as aardvark are still being seen during the day which is rather unusual yet great for photographs. We have identified a number of bat eared fox dens and our guests have been enthralled as they have watched the puppies playing under the watchful eye of their parents.

Another new sighting has been that of a number of chameleons especially on night drives when they show up well in the spotlight. Our buffalo are also becoming more visible with this photo taken near the luxury tented camp from a chopper.

Newman's Birds of Southern Africa
by Kenneth Newman

This Commemorative edition of Newman's Birds of Southern Africa at once updates a classic and pays tribute to one of the region's best loved birding authors, the late Kenneth Newman. With the support of bird expert Faansie Peacock, the author's daughter, Vanessa Newman, has thoroughly revised, updated and expanded this new edition to reflect the latest research, both in terms of text and illustrations. Covering all the birds recorded from the Antarctic to the Zambezi River, its range includes the birds from the southern seas as well as those of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Mozambique.

Our Bucklands Team

Congratulations to Grant and Sheridan who got married in January. We also welcome Tarry Butcher our new ranger who is a great addition to our team.

Our Bucklands team pride themselves in offering their guests a warm, friendly and professional safari experience, and look forward to hosting you, your family and friends at Bucklands Private Game Reserve in the near future.
